Thinking about the history of Starbucks®, when did it start?
Starbucks® first opened its doors on March 30, 1971, and first became available on Uber Eats in the US in 2018.
It was founded by three friends: Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker. They were inspired by Alfred Peet, a coffee roasting entrepreneur, to bring premium coffee to Seattle.
At the time of its founding, their mission was distinct from the coffeehouse experience we know today. Its primary focus was to be a premier purveyor of fresh-roasted, whole-bean coffees, teas, and spices. Their first Seattle storefront, located in Pike Place Market, offered high-quality coffee beans for customers to brew at home, along with the necessary equipment. It was a mercantile space, dedicated to the art and enjoyment of coffee beans, rather than serving prepared beverages. Essentially, at its inception, Starbucks® was a retail store selling coffee beans and equipment, not a place to grab a ready-made latte.
Today, Starbucks® is popular worldwide and has many, many locations around the US and beyond. Its menu includes a variety of coffee and tea beverages, snacks, meals, and more, which can be ordered with Uber Eats. Find a Starbucks® near you, whether in Seattle or elsewhere in the US, and order your favorite menu items for pickup or delivery.
