Chef Nuit Regular is changing the way that Torontonians think about Thai cuisine.
A native of Northern Thailand, Chef Nuit developed her passion for cooking and learned an appreciation of fresh ingredients from her mother. Though an interest in food was instilled in her at a young age, transforming the Toronto Thai food scene wasn’t always Chef Nuit’s ambition - she trained and worked as a nurse before immigrating to Canada.
Luckily for Toronto Thai food lovers, Chef Nuit came to Canada with the desire to introduce the cuisine of her region to her new home, and from their first introduction, Torontonians were hooked.
Today, no list of top Toronto eats is complete without at least one of Chef Nuit’s delicious dishes. From the tastes of Northern Thailand served at Pai, to the Laotian-influenced dishes at Sabai Sabai, to Kiin’s tribute to royal Thai cuisine, Chef Nuit continues to be a driving force behind the reinvention of Thai food in Toronto.

Because of restaurateurs like Barbora Samieian, the future of Vancouver food looks fresh.
It was while working for the United Nations in New York that Barbora Samieian first saw her opportunity to enter the restaurant industry: introducing the healthy quick-serve eateries common in NYC to her native Vancouver.
A few short years later, Barbora turned that opportunity into a reality, and opened Field & Social, a salad-specific restaurant offering busy Vancouverites a healthy meal option that fits their schedules. Field & Social has quickly become a downtown hot spot, with a menu that combines classic salads like the Kale Caesar or Cobb with more unique options inspired by Barbora’s travels and family roots.
Two years after opening, as Barbora’s foray into the world of food continues to grow in popularity, it’s clear that this healthy quick-serve concept is exactly what Vancouverites have been looking for.
Owner of Z Bar & Grille in Toronto, Ontario
Suzette Henry turned challenging beginnings into menu inspiration.
When Suzette Henry moved to Toronto from Los Angeles, she quickly realized that her new neighbourhood was lacking in places to grab a quick bite. The best way to fix that problem, she decided, would be to open a place herself.
Her first adventure in the restaurant world got off to a somewhat rocky start, and Suzette had to rent out space in her new restaurant to make ends meet. But it was from those tumultuous beginnings Suzette met Chef Tommy, a sidewalk Chef who taught Suzette about Jamaican cuisine. The rest - as they say - is history. Suzette’s Z Bar & Grille developed it’s unique and crowd-pleasing Jamaican-American menu, it’s signature barrel drum cooking style, and it’s niche in the highly populated Toronto restaurant space.
12 years later, and Z Bar & Grille continues to serve the flavours of Jamaica to faithful regulars and new culinary explorers every day - it’s safe to say that Suzette’s neighborhood now has a great place to grab a quick bite.
Executive Chef & Partner of Los Colibris & El Caballito in Toronto, Ontario
For Chef Elia Herrera, authentic and incredible Mexican eats are a family tradition.
A native of Veracruz, Mexico, Elia’s childhood was spent exploring the world of cookery. Her grandmother, a pioneer in Mexico’s catering industry, exposed her to the restaurant industry, and became the inspiration for Elia’s culinary pursuits.
In 2003, after years spent perfecting her craft at the Culinary Institute of Mexico and as the trainee of renowned Pastry Chefs in Spain, France, Belgium, and Italy, Elia brought her culinary skills and love of authentic Mexican cuisine to Canada.
Elia is now the Executive Chef and Partner of Toronto’s Los Colibris and El Caballito, where she serves a much-loved menu of upscale Mexican favourites, and along with her partners recently opened the more casual Colibri inside Assembly Chef’s Hall.

Lisa Labute is making clean-eating quick, easy, and delicious.
It was making a change to her own personal diet that drove Lisa Labute to leave advertising and enter the world of food - plant-based, raw, and made-from-scratch food. After discovering the positive impact that following vegan and raw food principles had on her health, Lisa became determined to find a way to provide healthy, all natural, and quick-serve meals to her community. So, in 2012, Lisa opened The Goods.
Everything on the menu at The Goods starts with single ingredients, and Lisa’s committment to fresh and made-from-scratch foods is apparent at first bite.
Through The Goods, Lisa has made enjoying more superfoods super simple - and super tasty.
Owner of Angie’s in Waterloo, Ontario
Turning a family restaurant into a Waterloo institution has been a lifelong endeavor for Teresa Huegle.
Teresa’s 54 years in the restaurant industry began when she was just 15 years old. After losing her father Bill to a drunk driver, Teresa found herself at the helm of her family’s restaurant, Angie’s Waterloo. Though tragedy necessitated her entrance into the world of food, Teresa soon revealed herself to be a born restaurateur.
With her mother and best friend Angie by her side to inspire and support her, Teresa built Angie’s Waterloo into a go-to spot for homemade comfort food, with an ambience sure to make guests feel comfortable and at home.
Today, Teresa continues to run the restaurant alongside her husband Bob and daughter Suzanne. With their fantastic food and authentically personal service, Angie’s remains a Waterloo favourite.
